Microsoft Shopping Assistant (browser extension)

Find the cheapest prices plus price change alerts with this handy browser extension Microsoft Shopping Assistant in browser

In Japan where I'm currently living, we use a site called kakaku.com to find the cheapest online prices for things. Usually I'm not much of a shopper, but we're approaching the holiday season and I've found myself shopping outside of Japan and visiting amazon.co.uk quite a bit recently.

There's a handy web browser extension (which I didn't know about) called `Microsoft Shopping Assistant'. Microsoft Shopping Assistant stays out of the way, but when you are looking at items online it subtly asks you if you'd like to find other listings of the same product, to help you find a better deal.

This is nothing groundbreaking of course, but it is a useful web browser extension for users like me, so I thought I'd write about it here, for other people who haven't tried it either. It works with the popular web browsers like Edge, Chrome, Firefox and Opera. It comes in handy now that we are nearing the holiday shopping season.

In the example below, I did a search for a Sandisk Ultra 128GB Micro SDXC card for my phone. As you can see Microsoft Shopping Assistant asks me if I'd like to see more listings like this.

You can then choose to ignore the assistant, close it, click on the heart to favourite the listing for later Favourite products icon in Microsoft Shopping Assistant or click `More like this' to see more similar listings More like this button in Microsoft Shopping Assistant.

Upon clicking `More like this', you are shown plenty of similar items you can look at or save for later:

As well as finding and favouriting items for later, you can also set Microsoft Shopping Assistant to let you know if the prices on your saved items change. Also, if you login via a Facebook, Google or Microsoft account you can set the threshold of those price changes.

Microsoft Shopping Assistant is a pretty good browser extension. It's worth checking out. Leave a comment below and let me know what you think of it.

  • Save time and money by seeing prices across retailers.
  • Get alerts when prices drop for your favorite products.
